Lincolnshire based, strip-till specialists Sly Agri have delivered their first 9m Stripcat2 cultivator with more in production for post harvest delivery.
Building on the success of 6m Stripcats already operating in the UK and on the Continent, the 9m model is in response to demands from larger farms and contractors for a higher output unit suitable for beet, OSR and maize establishment and liquid fertiliser injection.
The 18 rows model weighs in at 14t and feature two stage hydraulic folding to keep within the 3m transport limit. Large diameter dual wheels minimise soil compaction straddle the rows.
The Stripcat2 cultivator loosens the root zone of the area to be drilled leaving the rows in between untouched. This reducing horsepower requirements and establishing better soil structure across the field.
The front wavy coulter cuts through trash and starts the cultivation. It is flanked by depth wheels, which pin down stubble and assist the disc to slice through the material.
A pair of angled, finger-type discs follow to clear stubble trash and leave a clean strip for the shank.
The narrow, low-disturbance legs are adjustable down to 300mm by a hole-and-pin arrangement, protected by hydraulic auto-reset or a traditional shear bolt.
410mm discs either side limit soil distribution, keep material within the strip and creating a ridge of loose soil.
Air actuators control the ground pressure of the front depth wheels and the two cage consolidation wheels at the back from zero to 600kg. All moving parts are mounted on sealed bearings or poly-bushing, long lasting with no daily maintenance.
StripCat2 is available in 4 to 24 rows with 37.5 to 80cm row spacing and adjustable strip width.
The 9m model delivered to a major farming estate is fitted with a split 2,200 litre seed and fertiliser hopper for direct drilling OSR mounted at the rear of the chassis with dedicated metering units. Seed and slug pellets are carried by pneumatic feeder pipes to the rear discs where the seed is placed into the slit soil while pellets are dropped on the surface.
Sly offer an upgrade to facilitate simultaneous maize and beet planting in a single pass. This comprises a hydraulic 3 point linkage and 18 row precision planter.
