Bednar’s range of mulchers will be launched in the UK by importers Knight Farm machinery with a six metre model being shown on stand G25 at LAMMA 2015.
Knight believes there will be significant interest in the machines from farmers who need to manage field margins, conservation features and other grassland. They will also have a role in arable farming, believes David Main, Knight’s Sales Manager:
“We already have interest from farmers – especially those growing maize for the first time for bio-digesters – for a high capacity machine to mow difficult stubble such as maize and oilseed rape to aid quick decay of plant residues.
“Bednar’s mulchers – at up to seven metres wide – offer outstanding output, which will help users achieve timely field-work and crop establishment; increasingly important at a time when autumn weather patterns are becoming less reliable”.
The MZ6000, six metre wide mulcher that will be shown at LAMMA 2015, can be fitted with two different styles of blade.
For managing grassland four sharp flared blades set at 90 degree angles from each-other are used, which create a suction effect that pulls laid grass up and presents it for cutting.
When working on arable stubbles like those of maize and oilseed rape, one angled and one straight blade are paired together so they chop the plant in two places simultaneously, which helps reduce plant matter to short lengths while also spreading them evenly for quick decomposition.
The machine’s wings can be angled for bank/roadside work – being able to be dipped by 20 degrees or raised 90 degrees. A rear walking axle aids consistent cutting on undulating ground, while cutting height is set via a clip system:
“Effective destruction of thick stem bottoms achieves rapid breakdown of the crop residues and makes their incorporation much easier, which has the potential to reduce the number of subsequent cultivation passes, which reduces crop establishment time and costs”, says David.
To ensure long working life the machine’s cutting rotors are protected by a bottom plate, with the main frame being protected by replaceable guard plates, while the whole frame is galvanized to prevent damage by stones and plant juices.
The machine is fully protected against potential damage caused by blockages by a friction coupling that stops gear processes, while the pto also features a freewheeling clutch which protects it from damage. Direct greasing of all areas that require it reduces maintenance time.
Bednar’s full range of mulchers range from 2.5m to 7m working widths, all folding to 3m for transport,
