At the JCB Auction on 26 March the Fastrac prototype was bought by Johnny Hamill, a construction contractor from Dungannon, Northern Ireland. Johnny ran a 145-80 Fastrac for 7 or 8 years and has recently bought another for restoration. He then saw the prototype, P5, advertised and felt he had to buy it as well as a restoration project. When he collected the machine he had the opportunity to meet with Paul Hemingway, recently retired after 29 years at JCB. Paul worked on the Fastrac project for the first 11 of these years and was heavily involved in the development and launch programme through into the early years of production.
