Massey Ferguson have announced that a completely new front linkage and front PTO are now available for the MF 1740 and the MF 1747 models to increase the versatility of these tractors in order to perform an even wider range of different tasks.
MF 1700 compact tractors from 38-46hp are the perfect small workhorses for amenity and agricultural applications, and this new option gives the possibility to work with a greater variety of useful implements including front mounted mowers, cultivators, brushes, and snow blades and blowers.
The new front linkage and front PTO installation has a number of key features that provide significant benefits to customers:
1,200kg lift capacity
Full frame design for excellent integration
Two double acting cylinders with float position
Front spool valve with two outlets
Cat 1 hook end link arms
Integrated front PTO
Lift capacity is a substantial 1,200kg allowing a wide range of powerful implements to be operated efficiently.
The full-frame design offers excellent integration with the tractor chassis, so there is no compromise on manoeuvrability or visibility when the linkage and PTO are fitted.
Two double acting cylinders with float position give outstanding convenience and efficiency to handle and control more complex attachments. The front spool valve has two outlets giving hydraulic flow of up to 74.3 litres/min.
Category 1 hook end arms provide easy attachment of all implements and a transport lock provides added security and peace of mind when travelling with an attachment in place.
Operation of the front linkage lift/lower is via the joystick fitted as standard on MF 1700 models which is conveniently positioned to the operator’s right hand. The joystick also controls the flow either to the front couplers on the linkage, or if not using the front linkage, the standard mid-mounted outlets.
An integrated front PTO is available, enabling the operation of PTO-driven implements to further increase versatility and efficiency.
The PTO features anti-clockwise rotation delivering 2,000rpm at 2,600 engine rpm and its 13/8in six-spline shaft is compatible with a wide range of equipment. A Soft Start function, which can be adjusted manually by a dial next to the PTO engagement button, provides progressive engagement, protecting the tractor and implement.
Front and rear PTO engagement are simultaneous, using the same engagement switch and the potentiometer for modulation.
The MF 1740 is powered by a turbocharged, 1.5 litre, three cylinder engine that generates 38hp (ISO), while the MF 1747 is equipped with the latest design, four cylinder, 2.2 litre engine, which delivers 46hp (ISO).
Both models can be specified with a choice of either hydrostatic or mechanical transmissions. Developed specifically for these tractors, the advanced hydrostatic transmission offers an infinite speed range to match all tasks and conditions to improve working quality.
The well-proven transmission is controlled electrically and operated with a simple floor pedal and now boasts a left-hand shuttle lever. This provides simple, fingertip direction changes, which makes manoeuvring easy and increases productivity.
The hydrostatic transmission in both tractors offers three ranges, while a Hi/Low lever on the MF 1747 doubles the number of ranges up to six.
On the Hydrostatic models a ‘cruise control’ button allows operators to set the forward speed, which is then maintained automatically. This improves comfort and offers better control, allowing operators to concentrate on the work quality and steering.
Operators can also adjust how quickly the transmission reacts with the ‘response’ system, which uses a simple knob to set the speed from fast to slow. A ‘Max Speed’ control allows operators to set the optimum maximum working speed for the job, making fine speed adjustments easier for jobs such as mowing, because when the pedal is fully depressed it restricts speeds to within the set maximum.
This transmission offers fine control for operating implements requiring precise control, and complements the front linkage and PTO perfectly.
Alternatively, purchasers can opt for a mechanical gearbox that provides 12 forward and 12 reverse speeds with Synchro reverse shuttle lever.
The MF 1747 HC and MF 1740 HC tractors with hydrostatic transmissions are equipped with a spacious, comfortable two-door cab, which has air conditioning as standard. A semi-flat floor operators’ platform with full ROPS protection is fitted to the mechanical transmission MF 1747 A and MF 1740 A models.
In addition to the new optional front linkage and PTO, TMF 1700 series tractors benefit from a high capacity Cat 1 rear three-point linkage with maximum lift of 1,400kg and 74 litre/min hydraulic flow, which provides the capacity to operate modern implements with ease. A two-speed 540/540E independent rear PTO is standard, while a mid-mounted PTO is fitted as standard on the MF 1700 series HC tractors with hydrostatic transmissions; and is an option on the ‘A’ Models with mechanical gearbox.
“The addition of a front linkage and PTO will make these neat and nimble tractors even more versatile, and offer greater efficiency for amenity and agricultural businesses,” says Campbell Scott, Director, Marketing Services and Public Relations Massey Ferguson Europe, Africa & Middle East
