A new mini cereal mill, developed specifically for small-scale farm or horse operations, has been launched by feed preservation specialists, Kelvin Cave Ltd. Called the KC Mini-Flaker, the dry roller mill is powered by a single-phase electric motor, making it suitable for use on the many premises across the UK which do not have access to three-phase power.
With the further benefit of producing an exceptionally clean, high quality sample, the mill will have particular appeal to livestock producers and equine establishments for whom good respiratory health is a priority.
Ideal for processing any cereal or mixtures of cereals and pulses such as peas, the KC Mini-Flaker is said to produce a ‘beautifully flaked finished product’.
With a 2.2 kW motor and an output of around half a tonne per hour (500-600kg/hour), the mill is perfectly suited to those who wish to process as little as one 25kg bag at a time.
Simple to operate at the touch of a button and easily adjustable to provide a roller pressure to suit the grain, the flaker has a unique configuration of helically-meshed rollers, precision-engineered to run smoothly and quietly.
“We have been aware of the need for a single-phase dry roller mill for some time, so we’re delighted to be able to offer the KC Mini-Flaker to meet this demand,” says the company’s managing director, Kelvin Cave. “It will allow small-scale livestock producers or equine yards to make cost-effective use of either home-grown cereals such as oats or barley, or cereals purchased locally, often at a considerably lower cost than proprietary branded feeds.
“Our specialisation at Kelvin Cave Ltd is to provide methods of preservation and treatment for home-grown feeds and forages, and we are particularly delighted to be able to offer the benefits this brings to the smaller scale operation,” he continues.
“The icing on the cake with this particular mill is the quality of the end product, which is of an exceptionally high standard and which I know will appeal to any discerning stock person,” he says.
The KC Mini-Flaker can be seen on the Kelvin Cave Ltd stand (number F10) at YAMS, The Yorkshire Agricultural Machinery Show, on Wednesday 8 February at York Auction Centre.
