Hybrid Telehandler Prototype Earns Design Award

New Holland’s latest engineering concept — its Hybrid Telehandler prototype — has secured an iF Design Award 2026, following its debut at Agritechnica 2025. The award recognises the machine’s advanced integration of hybrid propulsion technology with a purposedriven industrial design approach.

Founded in 1953, the iF International Forum Design oversees one of the world’s most established design competitions, now attracting more than 10,000 submissionsfrom nearly 5,000 companies annually. The Hybrid Telehandler stood out to judges for its engineeringled form, functional innovation, and clear differentiation from standard telehandler architectures.

Engineering Integration at the Core

The prototype combines electric drivewithcompressed natural gas (CNG), a dualenergy system that aims to reduce emissions while ensuring extended operational autonomy. New Holland’s designers were tasked with embedding this nontraditional layout into a compact structure without compromising serviceability, visibility, or structural clarity.

Senior Designer Giampiero Vietti noted that the development process required aligning the hybrid system with New Holland’s evolving design DNA — a language shared across the brand’s newest tractors, combines and forage harvesters. The result is a platform that blends aesthetic precision with functional purpose, optimising operator comfort, control interfaces and sightlines.

Redefined Proportions and Industrial Form

Rather than treating the hybrid system as a constraint, the design team viewed it as an opportunity to redefine the machine’s proportions. Key outcomes include:

  • A compact, rebalanced architecture that supports the hybrid power layout
  • Chiselled, highprecision surface forms that emphasize structural robustness
  • A contemporary industrial presence that reinforces New Holland’s innovation ethos

The final prototype expresses a clear technical identity — a machine engineered not only for practical utility but to signify New Holland’s broader shift toward sustainable, smart and energyefficient equipment solutions.
