High-horsepower tractors make UK public debut
UK farmers and contractors will get their first public opportunity to see the latest high-horsepower tractors together at Tillage-Live 2026, with working demonstrations and static displays covering the 8R, 8RX and 9RX ranges.
The new 8R 540, launched in the US in February, makes its UK public debut at the Cambridgeshire event. With a maximum output of 634hp, the tractor will be shown in both wheeled 8R and tracked 8RX specifications.
Model year 2027 updates to the standard 8R and 8RX ranges will also be on display, including the new CommandView 4 cab and revised exterior styling.
Completing the line-up is the 9RX 830, described as the world’s largest production tractor and now a familiar sight at UK agricultural shows.
Chris Wiltshire, tactical marketing manager for the UK and Ireland, says the Tillage-Live display brings together several of the company’s major high-horsepower tractor developments from the past three years.
New 8R 540
The three-model 8R high-horsepower range was unveiled at Commodity Classic in San Antonio in February 2026, representing a significant increase in the performance available from a standard-framed tractor.
The 8R 540 and 8RX 540 use a 13.6-litre, six-cylinder JD14 engine, also fitted to the X9 combine and 9 Series tractors. An eAutoPowr transmission is standard, with its electric drive configuration designed to reduce power losses.
The wheeled 8R 540 can reach up to 60kph on the road, while the electric drive provides precise, high-torque control at speeds below 5kph for applications including silage pushing and heavy PTO work.
The CommandView 4 cab incorporates a new seat with neck ventilation, redesigned CommandARM with electric adjustment and a Convenience Display for personalised operator settings.
Push-button starting uses a four-digit PIN, which can also recall the operator’s preferred seat and control settings.
Maximum output
The 9RX 830 is powered by a JDX18 engine producing up to 4,234Nm of torque. Three hydraulic pumps provide a maximum flow of 636 litres/min.
A 1,952-litre fuel tank can be filled in around four minutes using the optional fast-fill system, while the tractor does not require AdBlue.
An e21 powershift transmission drives the four rubber tracks, with maximum ballasted weight reaching 38.1 tonnes. Despite its size, claimed ground pressure can be as low as 0.58kg/cm².
At Tillage-Live
The high-horsepower tractors will be displayed on the company’s stand, with working demonstrations taking place on cultivated ground during the event.
Product specialists will also be available to discuss the machines and their applications with visitors.
