Mild hybrid tractor combines implement electrification with coordinated control
New Holland’s prototype specialty tractor combining mild-hybrid powertrain assistance with electrically powered implements has received an EIMA Technical Innovation Award 2026.
Designed for vineyard and orchard operations, the T4F eSource Mild Hybrid System uses a 48V electrical platform to provide power to front- and rear-mounted implements while coordinating their operation with the tractor.
The system is based around an Intelligent Power Flow Management System, which controls the exchange of energy and data between the tractor and implements.
Rather than simply replacing mechanical or hydraulic power with electrical energy, the concept is designed to allow the tractor and implements to operate as a coordinated system.
This enables multiple operations to be carried out in a single pass while retaining the individual settings and operating requirements of each implement.
At EIMA 2026, the system will be demonstrated with a rear-mounted Nobili e-BV 16 mulcher and a front-mounted Tecnovict 111E leaf stripper.
The developer claims the combined system can deliver fuel savings of up to 52%, alongside lower emissions and noise and reduced maintenance and operating costs. The system is also intended to increase field productivity by optimising energy use and reducing the number of passes required.
The concept differs from a conventional specialty tractor by combining drivetrain hybridisation, implement electrification and coordinated multi-implement operation on a single platform.
The Intelligent Power Flow Management System dynamically distributes available energy between the tractor powertrain and connected implements, while sharing operational data between the machines.
The technology is being presented as an approach to providing electric power for specialist vineyard and orchard equipment without requiring a fully electric tractor.
New Holland will show a prototype be exhibited at EIMA 2026 in Bologna.
