Precision cultivator gains drilling capability
Sowing cover crops in dry conditions and into chopped straw is one of the most common — and challenging — agronomic issues faced by farmers. SKY Agriculture is addressing this challenge with a new version of its METHYS PCS (Precision Cutting System) precision cultivator, launched at SIMA 2022 and already widely recognised for shallow stubble management and weed resistance control.
The machine has become a multifunctional tool, thanks to the integration of fine tines and a dedicated seed distribution head.
An accessible and effective solution
For this new version, SKY Agriculture has partnered with Metcalfe, a recognised specialist in fine-tine technology. Its technology enables minimal soil disturbance, reduced energy consumption and almost immediate furrow closure — three decisive advantages for fast, effective drilling, even in challenging conditions.
Drilling precision combined with the robustness of a precision cultivator
Initially available for the 4 and 6 metre mounted models, this new configuration is based on the precision cultivator frame, featuring four gauge wheels and a harrow that can be individually adjusted for each row at the rear.
It incorporates 12 mm-wide Metcalfe seeding tines, carbide-reinforced for increased durability across all soil types. With 71.1 cm of under-frame clearance and four rows of tines, the METHYS PCS offers exceptional clearance and minimises the risk of blockages, even where significant amounts of crop residue are present.
The key innovation lies in the addition of a distribution head and adjustable seed delivery tubes, which place the seed as close as possible to the furrow while maintaining the machine’s ability to handle challenging conditions without blocking.
This new version completes SKY Agriculture’s modular approach built around a front hopper. Farmers choose a front hopper with 2, 3 or 4 compartments and then select the appropriate rear-mounted seeding solution.
